Size Inclusive
Our Sizing
For years weĀ tugged andĀ pulled on our gi, wishing there was more fabric here or less fabric there. Some of us struggle to maintain modesty and some of us have accepted we will never get it. We struggle with "see-through" fabrics or pants thatĀ restrict our movements. We hear our instructors repeat, "Lift your knee before you kick" but we physically can't. There is no space. We endlessly roll up sleeves, and pant legs. We even buy or borrow an old sewing machine and learn to sew the thick canvas, breaking the sturdiest sewing needles weĀ canĀ find and ugly cry about it all.Ā
Typical uniform size charts try to go by height and weight. As females, that doesn't always work for us. Sadly, some of us end up buying 1 or 2 sizes larger, or buying two separate uniforms so you can have a size 4 pants and a size 5 top. Why is this so hard?! The answer: I.Don't.Know.
What I do know is that I envy those who can comfortably wear a "unisex" gi.
Onna Kimono has not revolutionized the Karate Gi industry. We have not changed theĀ design. We just tweaked the size chart for a woman's frame. We added more room to the seat took out fabric in a few other places and added a few otherĀ convenient elements. We are moreĀ size-inclusive and offer our uniforms in Standard, Curvy, and Slim fit
What's My Size?
Good question. Use your height!! This time it should work.Ā Our sizes go by how manyĀ centimeters tall you are. Keep in mind, you will be getting the extra room you need. Begin by measuring around the largest part of your hips inĀ centimeters (cm) and the same for your bust. We recommend wearing your sports bra when you take those measurements.
Are you a Standard fit, Curvy, or Slim? Grab a tape measure and find your perfect gi. If you are in between sizes, always size up! Our 100% cotton gi's will shrink, because that is what cotton does and we do not know witchcraft. We do offer 1/2 sizes to help you dial in the perfect fit. Still unsure of your size? Fill out a contact card and we would be more than happy to help you find your next kimono. Remember, you have 30 days to return if something isn't quite right!
