Small batch. Hand finished. Built for training.
Our handcrafted kama are made in small batches from domestic American hardwoods and built specifically for martial arts training.
Each model has its own name, dimensions, wood species, blade configuration, and finishing details so you can choose the pair that best fits your training style.
Your slicing sticks deserve to be a little special.
Training weapons can still have personality.
Training kama only — never live blades
Every pair is made with intentionally dull training blades. All blades are approximately 7" long.
We do not sell sharpened or “live” kama blades.
These are designed for kata, kobudo practice, demonstrations, and competition training where permitted by your dojo or organization.
Built by hand
Each pair is individually assembled and finished rather than mass produced.
Features may include:
- Domestic American hardwood handles
- Dull training blades
- Brass pin construction at the blade-to-handle connection
- Protective shrink wrap at the head of the kama
- Natural, unwrapped wood grip
- Clear mineral-oil finish
- Small-batch production
- Sold as a matched pair
- Intended for martial arts training
The protective shrink wrap is located only at the head of the weapon, where the metal blade meets the wooden handle.
It provides an additional layer of security around the pinned connection and helps protect the surrounding wood from chipping or splintering.
Natural hardwood. No stain.
Our wooden weapons are not stained.
Each piece is finished to showcase the natural color, grain, and character of the hardwood.
Because real wood varies naturally, no two pairs will ever look exactly alike.
Variations in grain, tone, and appearance are part of the finished product and are not considered defects.
Natural wood finish and care
Each kama is protected with a clear mineral-oil finish rather than a colored stain or heavy coating.
To maintain your wooden weapons, apply a light coat of food-grade mineral oil whenever the wood begins to look or feel dry.
For many users, this may only be necessary every few months.
Apply a small amount with a soft cloth, allow it to absorb, then wipe away any excess before use.
Avoid soaking the wood, leaving it wet, or storing your kama in excessively damp or extremely dry conditions.
Choose your model
Just like our handcrafted nunchaku, each kama style gets its own name.
Each named model represents a specific combination of size, construction, shape, and feel.
Product options will clearly list details such as:
- Handle length
- Wood species
- Protective wrap color
Available protective wrap colors may include black, white, hot pink, and other colors as materials become available.
Want to personalize your kama?
Custom engraving may be available for an additional fee.
If you are interested in personalization, leave a note with your order stating that you would like engraving and contact Onna Kimono to begin the personalization process.
You do not need to have every detail finalized when you place your order.
After purchase, I will reach out to discuss:
- What you would like engraved
- Engraving placement
- English lettering or Japanese characters
- Custom artwork
- Final personalization cost
For Japanese lettering or symbols, you must provide the exact characters or artwork you want engraved.
Onna Kimono does not translate or verify Japanese text.
Personalized items are final sale once engraving has begun.
Important training blade information
These kama are sold exclusively with dull training blades.
No Onna Kimono kama will be sold with a sharpened or live blade.
Customers are responsible for confirming that kama are permitted by their dojo, martial arts organization, competition rules, and local laws before purchasing.
Made to train. Made to be yours.
Small batches mean woods, protective wrap colors, and individual models may change from one release to the next.
When a particular combination is gone, you may have to wait for it to come around again.
